I helped walk the choir children to fosters nursing home yesterday, it was a lovely morning and the children's singing was amazing. Well done to you all, its such a shame there aren't any more children in the choir as it's really inspiring.

Beechwood is a really good school. I loved it there - I never wanted to leave! I miss my friends a lot.

Beechwood is a fun, athletic, healthy school which I learned from and I would never want it to change.

Thanks to Mr Davies for making a brilliant school. I think alot of kids should go to a school like Beechwood xx

Go BEECHWOOD!

I saw Adams' (year 6) leavers assembly today. It was fantastic. It was so emotional !! Several times, there were tears in my eyes. I was so proud of Adam. It was such a huge step for him to take part on stage, and still have a smile on his face. Well done, Mr James, for helping Adam to overcome some of his nerves !! Mr James, you have been a great teacher for Adam, and I know he will miss you a lot. I mustn't forget to mention Mr Davies and Mrs Gillard. Thank you both very much for everything. You have both been brilliant !!

Hello everyone! Well, I guess another year is about to come to an end, and there have sure been a lot of great changes on the website! I also see some new faces, but some very familiar ones that seem to still be handling those ropes well amd Mr Davis is sure still working the school well! I look forward to visiting some time in the next coming years and see everything again with my own eyes. I bet by then no kids I will have watched/taught will still be there! Here all well, Jesse will be entering his 2nd year of Middle School and his sister Gabriella will soon celebrate her 2nd birthday! Lots of hugs to everyone and have a wonderful warm Summer full of fun and games!

I watched my son's class assembly on Friday which was about Pirates - it was the first one they had done. It was amazing - Mrs Jones & the teaching assistants did a fantastic job. I never thought my son would stand up and speak but he did - we are so proud of him and also what he has achieved already at Beechwood. Thank you so much Mrs Jones.

Hello
I went to Beechwood in the late 60's early 70's !!! It was a fabulous school then and looks like it still is today which is great to see. I was in Nightingale House team, which was linked with the colour green I think ,- but Churchill House team (Blue), and Nelson (Red) used to win most things I seem to remember. Does the school still use these House team themes ? We also had an outdoor pool where everyone learnt to swim - we were awarded certificates for swimming a width, a length, diving for a brick etc. and we were allowed to swim in it in the Summer Holidays - our Mums had to supervise! GREAT DAYS!!

Fantastic news Beechwood !!!!! It's great that so many parents want their children to join your school in september. It's a shame that you can't accommodate everyone ! I would just like to say that i am so glad i moved my boys to your school last year. I have absolutely NO REGRETS, and i would not hesitate to recommend Beechwood School to anyone.

I left Beechwood 3 years ago now.
I just came on the site to see whether a car boot sale was coming up soon and got carried away looking at all the new stuff thats has been happening here.
I have heard all of the good things going on improving the school and how it is the best school in Woodley now.
Good luck in the future

Well done Beechwood in the minibeast performance.

It was an absolute joy to be part of it and I just want to say how fantastic all the children were during rehersals and all 3 showings.

A massive well done to Mrs Minter, Mrs Raines and Mrs Chan who organised the show and to everyone who helped with everything throughout.

I am so proud to be a part of such a fantastic school and look forward to many more top class productions.

I have to give a special mention to the 4 dung-beetles - not many will have that on their CV!!!

The 3 soloists were brilliant and perfect for the job they had to do.

Every single child in the production took their part so well, it was tuly amazing!

Keep up the good wood Beechwood.

Wow, Beechwood School, 'Happy Days' back in the 1960's/early 70's. We had Mr Andrews as headmaster and Mrs Day as Dept Head/Music Teacher. My Aunty was Mr Andrews PA.
The Choir sang in Woodley top shops when they first opened after closing of road. The hardware store called Maxwell's had 'Dads Army' doing a Zebra Crossing film which we were able to watch being filmed.
Just before we left in 1973 we all set off for Holland and Belguim with a few teachers in tow. I recall having to do the odd bit of homework every night. We thought it was funny that you could have 'flakes of choclate for breakfast.'We took off from Southampton Airport in a Bristol aircraft the nose opened up to allow cars on.
Pupils took cycling tests so that everyone could cycle to Denmark Avenue to see Waingles Copse School which had recently opened. (The copse that made way for the school was idyllic, rabitts, foxes, badgers, blue bells, etc., spent many weekends having picnics with my parents and school friends. No one protested back then.) I recall getting a thick ear for looking out of the window instead of at the black board. Mrs Sturock was her name. Today I know that having done NLP and Byers Briggs I do 'Big Pictures' and have become a successful graphic designer, illustrator and writer.
But those early years are important, so study hard and you'll achieve your goal.

Your Sincerely,

Andrew Bird

Wow!! this website really brings back good memories. I went to Beechwood from 1988 till 1992. But only a few month before finishing year 6 we had to go back to Malaysia (my father completed his studies in UoR). Really, this school rocks!! I really enjoyed my years here. I was in Pluto House, Netball Captain of team A and B (really good to see the netball team is still performing very well!), chess club, and back then we had a skipping rope club. For teachers during those days, Mrs Holton, Mrs Day, Mrs Nuttle, Mr. Morgan, Mrs Allen (headteacher), and also friends,if you happen to come across this comment, please do leave your emails. It would be a pleasure if we could be in contact again. Wish I could go back to Woodley someday..

An excellent website - and the school hasn't changed at all.

I see you've had a makeover, but it looks very similar to when I left it.....in 1970! I attended for one term, aged 5. It made a lasting impression.

Good luck to all current pupils. I hope you enjoy your time at this school. Keep on 'doing something good'.

How lovely to see you've had a makeover. To those who remember Emma and myself, have a great Summer break. Emma is off to college in September to study the sciences, which will hopefully lead her ultimately to hull university to study for a Biomedical Science Degree. We both have fond memories of our time at Beechwood, and wish you all well.

Am I the oldest ex pupil to visit the website?. I was at Beechwood from 1962 - 66 and have many fond memories, a school trip to Paris just before we won the World Cup stands out ! - also the building of the swimming pool (I'm sure it wasn't heated in those days though). My family moved to Yorkshire a few years later but I recently visited Woodley again and it was great to see the school was still thriving.

Mark.... I can help you with the recipe for gypsy tart but I can't see your email. The pudding you refer to is also known as manchester tart and is usually made with pastry then a layer of jam, topped with thick set custard then sprinkled with coconet spinkels on the top and chilled to perfection.

If my email comes up then feel free to email me for the recipes, otherwise you can contact me via the school!

Great site! Good to know the school goes from strength to strength. I'm an ex-pupil (1975-81) and would LOVE to hear from any ex-canteen staff of the period who can give me the recipe for the schools delicious 'Gypsy Tart' and also a pudding which I forget the name of. (Shortcrust pastry base, layer of jam, then a sort of strawberry, blancmangey mixture all topped with coconut! Delish!!!) How I'd love to taste those two again. Bring the memories flooding back....

Any of these old teachers from the time still around somewhere I wonder?

E-mail me do!

(Former 'Pluto' House Captain you know! - Never came top! No surprise with me in charge)

As an 'old girl' of Beechwood School it has been lovely to read all about what is happening. I left the school in 1966 aged 6!
I have now been given the job of creating a website using ik.org for the school where I work as Secretary. Any hints or tips from yourselves would be most welcome!

PS My sister lives in Headley Road and so I have often been in the precinct and heard the children in the playground.

I would just like to say 'WELL DONE' to the whole school for the christmas performance.

KS1 did a fantastic nativity play, Elliot was stunning in his teatowel as Joseph. The children that read out were all loud and clear and full of confidence. I did think some of the little ones looked tired on the evening performance, it was no doubt past their bedtimes but they still kept smiling throughout.

KS2 telling of modern day Cinderella was fantastic, Alex played the part of Cinderella so well, and all the other actors / actresses were superb.

Credit to the pupils and all the teaching staff that made it a great evening.

WELL DONE BEECHWOOD

It's great to see so many familiar names and faces. I was a teacher at Beechwood from 2000-2002 and really enojoyed my time there - I'm glad to see it still seems to be a happy place to work and study! I'm teaching in China now working with children from 3-18 years old which I really love! If there are any pupils at Beechwood who would like to have a chinese penfriend/email buddy let me know because there are lots of children here who would like to make an english friend :)

The website looks great. My two sons Marc and Geoff were at Beechwood some years ago and there was nothing like this available then. Well done. Only Mr Morgan and Mrs Gillard remain the same. All the best to Beechwood from New Zealand where we are now living.

I am delighted with this website and wish to say a big thank you to Phil Healy, (site architect) and Matt Bevan (site manager). Congratulations on winning the top 6 award for the school website. This goes a long way to promoting Beechwood and raising its profile in the wider community. There is a strong community spirit in Beechwood and this website surely reflects the school's corporate identity. I have enjoyed reading so many positive comments from website visitors and this will spur everyone at Beechwood to work even harder. Thank you to everyone for making me feel so proud of your achievements.

It is so nice to know more about the school from the internet. I've been testing in Beechwood for my PhD theses for several weeks. The people are so friendly, and they have many clubs and assemblies in which, I think, each child may have chance to develop and present their various skills. The kids are lively and well-behaved. Thanks very much for letting me testing there, so that I can complete one of my studies. I really appreciate all your help, Mr Davies, Sue, and the teachers and the kids. All the best.

What a lovely surprise to see Beechwoods website! Having visited the school some years ago in a non-teaching capacity I was impressed at the vast and effective improvements that have been implemented since being in Mr Davies' capable hands. Our South African schools will have to sit up and take notice of the advancements that are taking place in the UK! Till we meet again....

When I saw the animation clips the second one was the funiest of the two. When I went into News in Pictures and there was a strange black & white picture of Mr Davies and I don't know why it's in black & white. But I like the Website. One more thing, I wish year three could be in animation club.

Hi,
I was a pupil at Beechwood, I think I left in 1991? but it was along time ago.

The school seems to have grown so much!! This site looks really really good, well done to all involved.
I have many happy memories from my time at primary school and by the look of some of the photos on this site the current pupils will have too.

Thanks
Diane
